Introduction to dose calculations
Most of the patients and even many of the physicians are not well informed about the dose calculation in oncology. Even though on a superficial level, the oncology dosing may appear a bit complex and hard to understand compared to the dosing in most other specialties. Let me reassure you, at this stage, that if we understand the basics about the oncology dosing, the whole thing becomes very simple. This article is written with an average oncology patient in mind, who does not have an above average gasp of mathematics and calculations. I will walk you through each minor details involving method used in oncology dose calculation. Some of the steps may be too basic for the math savvy readers, but bear with me while you read through these steps.
